Violet "Dolly" Marion Straight, 81, passed away Sunday, November 22, 2020 in Arlington, Texas from complications of Covid-19.
Dolly was born on April 25, 1939 in Penn Yan, New York to Leland Ray Morrison and Violet Marion Pung.She married Rev. George William Straight, Sr. on July 2, 1960. Dolly spent many years of ministry with George, even pushing him in a wheelchair so he could continue to visit his shut-ins when he was near the end of his life.
Dolly worked at Eastman Kodak in Rochester, New York until 1963 when she decided that being a wife and mother was her calling in life. Dolly and George moved their young family from New York to Arlington, Texas in 1968. She loved working with those in need and established a food pantry in which she served many years. She also spent long hours serving in a soup kitchen and ministering to the homeless of Arlington.
Dolly is survived by her daughters, Shawn-Marie Riley and husband, Michael and Jana Lee Connor and husband, Curtis; her grandchildren, Jacqueline Marie Rawlings and husband, Keith, Brendan Michael McGahey and Grayson Michael Riley; her brother, Leon Morrison; and many nieces and nephews, family and friends who loved her.
Dolly is predeceased by her husband, Rev. George William Straight, Sr. on April 6, 2004; her grandson, Christopher Nathaniel Allen; and siblings, Gerald Morrison, Florence Wood and Janet Reynolds.
Due to the pandemic, there will be no formal funeral. Dolly will be cremated and interred with her husband in the columbarium at St. Alban's Anglican Parish in a private family gathering at a later date.
