Born to Anthony and Phyllis Benedetto in New York City, Teresa was the oldest of seven children. Her mother was a warm and loving influence who instilled in Teresa the importance of family and the need for keeping in close contact with all her loved ones, no matter how far and wide. Teresa carried on this tradition throughout her life, often organizing extended gatherings of family and friends.

She was often referred to as the Matriarch of the family and the glue which held everyone together.

She was a lifelong learner.  Her passion for education was implanted at the Academy of Saint Joseph in Brentwood, NY where she attended elementary school and high school.  She often told the story of her experience as a nine-year-old when she was diagnosed with appendicitis and was given the then new drug penicillin, which was available for soldiers only.  Through Fate she survived and became the person we mourn today.

She earned her BA at Manhattanville College of the Sacred Heart and then continued at Columbia University earning her MA in education.

Later she attended Adelphi University where she earned her MBA.

Teresa continued her love of education by teaching Social Studies in Elmont, NY.  She later became a permanent substitute teacher in the Roslyn School District for many years.

A loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend, Teresa was the person everyone knew to call to find out what was happening in the family. She was the heart and soul of the family and was treasured and respected by all.

Teresa was a volunteer at St. Francis Hospital for many years and earned a pin for over 500 hours of service.

She enjoyed playing cards, chess, Skipbo and became especially competitive while playing Rummy Cube. She would move the whole board around until she won, which was very often.

Teresa was a strong, intelligent and independent woman with a dry sense of humor that never abandoned her even through the hard times.

Her spirit shall live on through her loved ones.

Survived by sisters Annette Benedetto, Phyllis Benedetto Carlin and Rita Rega, brother-in-law Peter Rega and brother Joseph Benedetto, daughter Phyllis, son-in-law Bob Keleman and grandsons Nick and Jesse Keleman and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brothers Sal and Don Anthony Benedetto.

A Memorial Service will be held for Teresa this summer in New York.
