Obituary

McKay's greatest treasure was the people she loved. She shared a cherished partnership with her husband and loving, close bonds with her parents, siblings, nephews, family, and friends. Relationships were at the center of her life, and she found great joy in spending time with loved ones, celebrating milestones, creating traditions, and making lasting memories together.

Her genuine kindness was woven into every aspect of her life. McKay had a remarkable gift for making people feel welcome, seen, and valued. Whether rescuing stray cats and kittens, standing up for those who were mistreated, sharing thoughtful gifts, or planning gatherings for family and friends, she demonstrated compassion in both big and small ways. She loved bringing people together through laughter, games, and shared adventures, and was especially known for creating unforgettable Dungeons & Dragons campaigns. With creativity and care, she crafted imaginative stories that fostered connection, teamwork, and friendship, leaving lasting memories for all who joined her around the table.

McKay's smile was unforgettable, a smile that made her eyes disappear into her cheeks and shimmer with warmth. Her salty, playful spirit was just as endearing. She had a unique way of letting you know she was a little annoyed with you while somehow making you feel loved at the same time. That blend of affection, honesty, humor, and trust was uniquely hers and made those around her feel safe, understood, and deeply connected.

Throughout her short but intense journey with cancer, McKay remained hopeful and faced the disease as a fierce and determined adversary, fighting with courage until the very end. During this season, she also grew profoundly in her relationship with Christ, finding assurance in His steadfast, personal, and unwavering love.

As McKay entered Heaven, she was welcomed into the presence of Christ and stepped into a wholeness and peace that cancer could never touch. She was reunited with those who went before her: her grandmother Connie, her grandfather David, and her uncle Mark, where familiar love was restored.

McKay will be deeply missed by her husband, Angus; her parents, Mark and Anne Marie; her siblings, Jonathan, Allison, Kristen, Clint, Tara, and Joshua; her nephews, Grant and Hudson; her grandparents, Les and Virginia; her in-laws, Mel and Bill; and a wide circle of aunts, uncles, cousins, and beloved friends whom she cherished and who will carry her memory forward with love.
