Obituary

Malcolm Augustine Gurusinghe was born on August 28, 1933 to Albert and Hilda Gurusinghe.Malcolm was born in Colombo, Sri Lanka and was one of 5 children.Malcolm married the love of his life Joan Elders and they have been married for 56 years.Malcolm was the chief engineer for the movie The Bridge over the River Kwai as the movie was filmed in Sri Lanka.This was Malcolm's claim to fame. When he lived in Sri Lanka, Malcolm enjoyed racing cars, boxing and archery.He won many archery competitions and boxing matches. Malcolm and his two brothers had a passion for cars as they would work on them and then race them.Malcolm came to the United States in 1974 to attend classes at the University of Massachusetts.He drove across the country to Portland, Oregon as his brother, Durward, lived in Portland. Malcolm was a small business owner in Portland and he discovered a new passion when he started playing tennis.He played tennis till he was 82.When he was in Portland, he captained 2 tennis teams that competed in national tournaments and one year his team won the national championship.Malcolm was a talented photographer and artist.Malcolm lived in Portland till 2004 when he and Joan moved to Trophy Club, Texas to be close to his daughter, Sabrina, son in law, Anicetus, and grandson, Jeremy.Malcolm adored Jeremy and they would spend many hours watching old movies and tennis on television.
Malcolm was preceded in death by his son, Jeremy Gurusinghe, his parents, Albert and Hilda Gurusinghe, and his brothers, Douglas Gurusinghe and Durward Gurusinghe. Malcolm leaves his wife, Joan; his daughter, Sabrina Fernando; his son in law, Anicetus Fernando; and grandson, Jeremy Fernando; his sisters, Pearline Withana, and Cynthia Muddanayake; nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great grand nieces,and great grand nephews. He was a wonderful man who loved his family and he will be missed.
Malcolm went to be with our Lord on December 13, 2019. Mass of Christian Burial at Good Shepherd Catholic Community, 1000 Tinker Road, Colleyville, TX 76034 at 10 am on Saturday, 12/21.
