Katherine Elizabeth Long

Passed away in Dallas, Texas on July 6, 2018. Daughter of Mary Jo and William Long of El Paso. A native of El Paso, she graduated from Burgess High School in 1983 and the University of Texas at El Paso I 1988.
She pursued a career in lab work and worked in labs in the Dallas Crime Lab. Most of her work was in the field of DNA testing. Two of her cases were featured on the T.V. series Cold Case Files. Due to her collective achievements she was recognized and received the Gold Nugget Award from UTEP in 2012.
She served on the Board of Directors for the Susan G. Komen Foundation of Dallas. An avid baseball fan with a desire to visit all major league ball parks and wanted to teach her nephews how to keep the official score card.
She was truly a kind and loving person and will be missed by family and friends.
Survived by parents, Mary Jo and William Long; grandmother, Rose E. Long; brother, John Long and wife, Adrienne; nephews, William and Matthew. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, William O. Long of PA; and her beloved Lab Maggie.
Memorial Mass will be at St. Raphael's Catholic Church on July 30th at 10:00 am.
She will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery with her grandparents, Francis and Catherine Wehrheim.
Interment will be private.
