John Albert
Berven
Apr 27, 1936 — Dec 22, 2022
John Albert Berven passed peacefully from this earth into the arms of his Heavenly father, on December 22, 2022, while holding hands with the love of his life, Marlene. John was 86 years old.
John was born, and grew up in Mitchell, SD. He moved to Sioux Falls, SD to play football and attend Augustana College. Here, he met Marlene. After graduation, he worked in the insurance industry in SD and MN. After moving to Watertown, SD, he found his passion to be real estate and opened his first of many companies working in sales, construction, development, consultation, and finance. His business grew and he taught seminars, started organizations for the exchange of ideas and properties. His consulting work took him throughout the world. He enjoyed helping people, solving problems, mentoring, and creating new projects.
Real Estate projects and friendships took him to
Denver and then to Dallas in the 1980's. He settled in Arlington, TX, working on real estate projects in the medical industry. He and his son, Brad, started a consulting and claims processing business to solve billing and financial issues for imaging centers.
Throughout his life, John loved life and laughter. His number one passion was his family. He worked hard to provide opportunities the family could enjoy together. From sailing, golfing, traveling, water and snow skiing to horse ownership, he was always up for a new adventure with the family. John enjoyed spending time with and meeting people and loved family and social gatherings. He loved his nieces and nephews and enjoyed mentoring and working with several of them. He adored his grandchildren and would do anything he could to help them in life. At a moment's notice, he would be on his way to soccer games, swim meets, basketball games, whatever they were interested in, he was always a willing cheerleader for their success.
As a captain in the Air National Guards, he developed his passion for flying. This passion enabled him to reside in SD but work all over the country. Anyone who knew him, knew, he loved flying.
John was preceded in death by his son, Brad. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marlene and his daughter Mary DeWeese. He is also survived by his "favorite" granddaughters, Savanna (Wesley) Liao and Summer DeWeese (fiancé Evan Shapleigh), and Grandson, Colby DeWeese. He is also survived by his brother, Jim (Ardys) Berven, and their children, Renee Olson and Doug (Sandy) Berven. Additionally, he is survived by brothers and sisters in law, Wallace Tvedt and Phyllis and Willis Hanson and their children and spouses.
Thank you for your fond memories and kind words about John. He will be greatly missed.
