Jo Ann Thompson Giles was born to Robert Lee Thompson and Odessa Bernice Massey on August 9, 1943 in Hearne, Texas. She transitioned peacefully on Monday, December 19, 2022. After graduating from Blackshear High School in Hearne, Texas, she later moved to Dallas where she met and married Henry Giles and to this union, two sons were born.
"Sister" as she was affectionately called by her family enjoyed many hobbies including cooking and gardening. In her early years, Jo Ann worked as a record distributor for PickWick Records where she traveled and met many wonderful and interesting people. She also worked at T. Boone Pickens YMCA, and Girling Home Health Care Service. Jo Ann was a wonderful cook and later started her own catering business. She catered many weddings, church festivities and special occasion events both locally as well as outside the city limits.
Jo Ann accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior early in life. She attended Greater Mount Hebron Baptist Church under the pastorage of the late Rev. H. L. Crayton. Jo Ann later joined Carver Heights Baptist Church on August 21, 1994, under the pastorage of the late Rev. Tyler Carter. She has served in various ministries including the Women Usher Board and the Food Pantry. She was a dedicated and faithful member until her health failed. She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert Lee Thompson and Odessa Bernice Massey; brother, Sargeon Thompson; and grandson, LaCedric Thompson, Jr.
Jo Ann leaves many to cherish her memory always and forever in their hearts; sons, LaCedric Thompson (Shenikwa); Michael Giles Sr. (Sonya), Kevin Giles (Louan); grandchildren, Sierra Black, Eboni Coppage, Michael Giles, Jr., Taeler Thompson, Madison Thompson; one great-grandchild; sisters, Wanda Davis and Frances Archer; a very special niece, Shirley Thompson; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 26th, 2022 at Carver Heights Baptist Church 2510 E. Ledbetter Drive, Dallas, TX 75216. Interment at Laurel Land Memorial Park, Dallas, TX.
Viewing will be held prior to service from 10:00 a.m. - 10:40 a.m.
