Janet Lynn Howard (nee Clines) passed away Saturday morning, Sept 2, 2023 at Arlington Memorial Hospital in Arlington, Texas. She was 67 years old and spent the last months of her life fighting gallbladder cancer. She was born in Fort Worth, Texas on Nov 15, 1955 to Lillian and Gene Clines, the middle child between her older brother, Harley, and her younger brother, David. She graduated from Eastern Hills High School in 1974. She married her high school sweetheart, Stanley Howard, and spent the next 20 years moving around the country after he joined the Coast Guard. Her travels have included Alaska and the Pacific Northwest, the Deep South, and everything in between. She combined her talents of resourcefulness, steadfastness, creativity, and witty humor to raise her four children into wonderful and unique adults. She graduated from the University of South Alabama College of Nursing in 1993 before moving back to Texas in 1994, proceeding into a career as a psych nurse at CPC Millwood in Arlington, and later Baylor in Fort Worth, Texas.

Having spent massive amounts of her childhood at Lake Nocona, Texas, and of her adulthood between the Pacific Ocean and Gulf of Mexico, her fishing prowess was legendary. She could hook halibut, salmon, carp, or giant catfish using improvised bait and whatever pole was lying around. She had a love for all kinds of music, especially the Beatles -- George Harrison was her favorite. She enjoyed spending evenings nestled in the living room with her children, TV on but volume turned down, improvising her own dialogue –to gut splittingly comedic effect-- to old reruns of Star Trek. After retirement, she maintained a backyard garden for several years, providing peppers and vegetables to her kids and grandkids.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents and her younger brother, David. She is survived by her husband, Stanley, her brother Harley, her four children, Wesley, Daniel, Amelia, and David, and her nine grandchildren.  Nearing the end of her life, she was cared for by her sister-in-law, Annie Miller, as well as by her children. At her request, no formal funeral is being held. In lieu of flowers, you can pay tribute to her by enjoying the simple moments in your own life, and by having positive interactions with the people close to you. At the end of all things, it is those with which our lives are truly measured.
