Janet Burns (née Reed), 82, passed away on June 22, 2024, in Arlington, Texas. Born on January 7, 1942, in Houston, Texas. Janet lived a rich and vibrant life characterized by her love for her family, her community, and her many interests.

Janet graduated from Arlington High School and married Charles Wiley in 1962. Together, they raised twin daughters, Karen and Karla, in a home filled with love and laughter. She and Charles divorced after 21 years of marriage. She met Paul Burns of McLean, Virginia. They married in October 1988. Janet became stepmother to Paul's children, Laura and James.

Janet and her family were members of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Irving, Texas. Her time at the church provided Janet with comfort and community. She was the church Secretary for a few years, working for Fr. Ewart Rowland. Her hobbies included painting, golf, gardening, reading, and traveling--Passions that she pursued with great enthusiasm. Janet was particularly known for her skills on the golf course and her beautiful garden, which was a haven for local wildlife and a favorite gathering place for family and friends.

Janet's zest for life extended into her retirement, where she could often be found engaging in crafts with friends or experimenting with new recipes inspired by her favorite cooking shows. A cat lover, she cherished her time with her pets, Tucker and Lucy, and enjoyed watching the antics of birds and squirrels in her backyard.

She is survived by her daughters, Karen Wiley of Denton, and Karla Jones of Arlington; her stepchildren, Laura and her husband Gian Macone and James Burns; brother, Glade Reed; sister, Carolyn and her husband Lester Kindred; sister, Margaret Reed; and grandchildren, Stephanie Kearney, Sean Jones, Sophia Bono, Olivia Bono, Audrey Macone, and David Burns. Janet also leaves behind two great-grandchildren, Milo and Sienna Ortiz, as well as 3 nieces and 8 great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Glade C. Reed and Gertrude Pitts Reed, her husband Paul Burns, and her grandson, Derek Jones; nephew, Thomas Bramlet and niece, Kathleen Craig.

A memorial service celebrating Janet's life will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, located at 516 S O'Connor Rd., Irving, Texas 75060. There will be a reception to follow in the Parish Hall. Her legacy of warmth, generosity, and kindness will be remembered by all who knew her.
