James Eric Helgeson, 54, of Wichita Falls, Texas, passed away on May 2, 2026. Known to family and friends as Eric, he was born on June 27, 1971, in Dallas, Texas, raised in Arlington, Texas, and was a graduate of The Winston School in Dallas.

Eric was preceded in death by his father, James Eugene Helgeson, with whom he shared a deep love of the outdoors — especially hunting and fishing together.

In his later years, Eric made his home in Wichita Falls, where he worked in maintenance at Jellystone Park and Campground. There he found a warm community of friends and colleagues who valued him greatly. He shared his days with his beloved cat, Munchkin.

Eric is survived by his mother, Judith Helgeson; his sister, Merideth Helgeson  (husband, Chris Villasenor); his stepmother, Joann Shaddox Helgeson; his stepbrother, Eric Johnson (wife, Jessica); his stepsister, Elisha Rugerio (husband, Ruben Rugerio); his stepbrother, Cody Etheridge; his aunt, Linda Summers; his uncle, Jon Kiphart (wife, Bidu Tashjian); and his cousin, Chris Summers (husband, Matt Adams).

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites those who wish to honor Eric's memory to consider a donation to The Taste Project or The Arlington Life Shelter , two organizations that reflect his caring spirit and wish to helping others.

A celebration of Eric's life will be held at a later date.
