JAMES VERNON "JIM" CORNEHLS
Nov. 16, 1936 – Oct. 15, 2018
Born Dallas, Texas, youngest child and only son to Charles and Nola Mae Cornehls (ne Roper), brother of Charlene Scanlan and Nancy Clark.
After graduating from Adamson High School in 1954 and attending Arlington State College (now the University of Texas at Arlington), Jim enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in France.He then moved to Mexico City where he met his first wife, Paloma, with whom he has three children.The family lived in Austin, TX; Lima, Peru; and Long Island, NY before returning to Arlington, TX permanently in 1971.
A lifelong academic and voracious reader, Jim held degrees from the University of the Americas (B.A. Economics, 1961), the University of Texas at Austin (PhD Economics, 1965) and from the Southern Methodist University School of Law (J.D., 1982).He spent most of his career as a professor and economic consultant, and is a Professor Emeritus of the University of Texas at Arlington, where he was a founding member of the School of Urban and Public Affairs.Jim had a second career as an attorney in the Texas bar and as the proprietor of Ersatz Farms & Ranches of Bosque County, TX.
Few people who met Jim could easily forget him.He was an iconoclast who loved to tweak the nose of convention and is remembered fondly for his love of banana popsicles, "Jaguar" green, and his habit of sneezing loudly in sets of three.
Jim is survived by his wife Bobbie, daughters Lee and Paula, son Grant, and three granddaughters
