Roland Crossland was born in Dallas, Texas, on September 27, 1957, to parents Doris James and Garner Crossland.  He graduated from Skyline High School and earned a general studies degree from Richland College, majoring in astronomy. In 1985, after graduating from Elkins Institute of Technology, Roland launched a 40-year career as a logistics engineer in the defense industry, employed in multiple states for various companies and Department of Defense projects.  One of his proudest achievements was working with NASA on the ARES II mission to Mars. His most recent employer, BAE, a global aerospace and defense company, named him a BAE Fellow, which reflected Roland's innovation, outstanding technical expertise and leadership.

In 1996, Roland married Terri and in 1999 they had a daughter, Skylar. Together, the family traveled, explored, and had many adventures.  One of their favorite activities was going to Ft Davis.  Roland would take out his telescope and gaze upon the dark skies of West Texas.  He had a lifelong passion for astronomy, but he also enjoyed discovering and learning in many other fields, including photography, digital engineering, construction, landscaping, as well as cars, golf, football and baseball.  He had an agile mind and was generous with his abilities.  Whatever needed to be done, Roland was willing to help and could be counted on.

Floyd Roland Crossland, beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and colleague, passed away in the early morning of June 28, 2025. He is survived and deeply missed by his wife, Terri, daughter Skylar, mother Doris, sisters Sharon, Linda, Kathy and Lena, brothers Jimmy, Larry, Charles, his brother-in-law James, father-in-law Donald, and mother-in-law Levis, as well as a host of beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.
