David Alvin Ruehmann, 84, passed away on December 7th, 2023 with his wife, four children, and extended family by his side.

David was born November 26, 1939, in Sauk Centre, Minnesota, the first of two children of Irene Kish and Alvin Herman Ruehmann. He is survived by wife Susan Estes Ruehmann of Fort Worth, TX; brother Paul Ruehmann (wife Jo Ann) of Denver, CO; children Wade Ruehmann (partner Meredith Levinstein) of Des Moines, IA, Julie Ruehmann of Fort Worth, TX, Leslie (Annie) Ruehmann Webster (husband Todd) of Granbury, TX, and Megan Ruehmann (husband John Moeny) of Silver City, NM; grandchildren Reid, Kate, Luke, and Mallory; and many extended family members in Texas and Missouri who considered him grandpa and uncle.

David graduated from Watertown High School, MN in 1958. He received his Bachelor's degree from Buena Vista College in Iowa and continued his studies at the University of South Dakota, where he received his MBA. Soon after completing his studies, he began work for the Bureau of Public Roads, which then became the Federal Highway Administration.  In his position as accountant and administrative specialist, he traveled and worked in several locations including Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, Washington DC, Washington state, and New Mexico. He settled in Fort Worth in the early 1970's with his then wife Sallie Hampton and raised their four kids. He had an admirable work ethic, evidenced by working for Federal Highway Administration for 37 years. Even after retiring, he kept himself busy working as an H&R Block tax auditor for 15 years.

The son of a Reverend, David moved around Minnesota during childhood and had fond memories of fishing, helping his father build a kit house, canoeing, playing ice hockey, and getting into some trouble in the warming hut. He had an adventurous spirit, albeit a bit reckless at times, which always entertained his kids. At times his stories left us questioning the validity of some details; we've come to trust that most were true, apart from those spun specifically for kids. His athleticism led to a love of running in his 40's, logging 14k miles over a decade (a numbers guy at heart), and he encouraged his kids to take part by biking or running alongside him. His love of sports continued into retirement, being a dedicated TCU football and baseball fan.

In his retirement years, David was known as the jovial guy walking in the park, where he had the good fortune of meeting his wife Susan Estes Ruehmann and married in 2013. Daily walks in the park quickly became their favorite activity together. He could make small talk with anyone he encountered and always had a smile that showed dimples. He took great pleasure in grilling the perfect sirloin steak, gardening, feeding the backyard birds, and attending local sports events.

In honor of David's life, we hope to purchase a memorial park bench. In lieu of flowers, if you would like to contribute to this memorial, please contact one of his family members. His family plans to have an informal gathering in Fort Worth to celebrate David at a later date.
