Carol Hayes of Mansfield, Texas, passed away at home on June 26, 2025 at the age of 90. She was born December 31, 1934 in Chicago, Illinois to Harry and Hazel Houghton. She was the youngest of three children, and the only girl. Carol's early years were spent in Chicago. She later moved to Texas to raise her family. During these years she co- owned and operated Aladdin Air Heating and Air Conditioning Company. She resided in Texas until 1994, at which time she moved to Jonesboro Arkansas. For over 25 years Carol volunteered at the Jonesboro Human Development Center (JHDC). She helped develop and implement literacy programs for individuals with disabilities both at JHDC and for the Jonesboro local school district. She touched countless lives in her commitment to learning.
Carol was a loving mother to 6 children, 15 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great granddaughter. She was above all passionate about her family, and was extremely proud of them all. She loved to read, loved music and the arts, animals, nature, and treasured family times. She welcomed everyone with joy and a sense of belonging. When she smiled it was infectious, and made others want to smile too. Her smile was like a ray of sunshine.
Carol embraced life with an adventurous spirit and a strong love of life. She was a woman of faith and loved the Lord. She was grateful for the gift of her salvation.
Carol will forever be remembered, and is survived by her six children: daughter, Cheryl and her husband Bill; daughter, Billie Lee; son, Stormy and his wife Kathy; son, Rick and his wife Donna; daughter Heather and her husband Bob, and daughter Shannon and her husband Joe; 15 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 1 great-great granddaughter, and extended family. The impact she had on each of their lives is immeasurable, and a testimony to her unwavering love and support. Her absence will be deeply felt by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, husband, and one grandson.
