Carlyle Alvin "Sonny" Nolen, Jr. passed away December 26, 2023, in Arlington, Texas. He was born April 11,1944 to Carlyle Alvin Nolen Sr. and Margaret Eugenia Edwards Nolen.

He was raised in Grand Prairie, Texas and graduated from Grand Prairie High School, where he was the Student Body President.  He went on to graduate from what is now the University of North Texas with his Master of Science in Education.  He taught, coached and was an Administrator in the Arlington ISD with thirty years of service.

He married Janice Pickens on May 9, 1987. They are long time members of Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ. He volunteered at local food pantries and always gave of his time and efforts helping others in need.

His favorite hobbies included: playing golf, team roping, visiting the mountains of Colorado, and loving on his grandchildren, as well as transforming their backyard into a floral work of art.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Margaret Hill.

He is survived by his wife Janice, and daughters Shannon Martin (Clay), Aimee Montgomery (Mike), and Lisa Pickens (boyfriend Brian).

He is also survived by his grandchildren Brittany Bishop, Grayson Martin (Megan), Garrett Martin (Maddie) and Gatlin Martin (Reagan); great grandchildren:  Jett Martin, Tommy Clay Martin, in addition to numerous other family members.

Sonny lived Big and loved Big. He was well known for his infectious and sincere smile and his giving heart.  He was always an encourager and helper to those in need and he lived out his faith in Christ through his actions and how he treated every single person.

We look forward to seeing him in Heaven one day.
